My child is in first grade and is struggling with reading.  His teacher tells me that it is too soon to be concerned, that he may not be developmentally ready.  But I see him struggling and I don't want him to get behind.  Is it too early for tutoring?

Catching problems the earliest possible is always the optimum remediation.  Too often, a student may not be identified as needing extra help in reading until third grade.  Sadly, this child has already missed the most crucial years for laying the foundation for reading, Kindergarten through second grade.  Addressing problems from the onset is the ideal solution.  At this stage, a little remediation can go a long way.
