Math

Assessment is critical in establishing an appropriate instructional program.  Assessment is not limited to paper-pencil tasks.  Assessment will also include verbal questions to identify comprehension of math concepts and algorithms.  Errors are analyzed to determine gaps in conceptual understanding.  Hands-on materials are also used to assess understanding.  From the assessment an individualized program will be designed that may include:

instruction in mathematical concepts, utilizing hands-on materials and computer technology

step-by-step instruction in mathematical algorithms

cognitive strategy instruction to develop and maintain computational skills

emphasis on application of math skills

direct teaching of word problem solving
